Jerko Leko is a former football player and Croatian professional football manager. He primarily played as a central midfielder, but was also very good as a right-back. He is currently the head coach of Jarun, a second-tier football club.
His professional career began in 2000 with Dinamo Zagreb, but that was not such a successful move. After spending some time on loan at football club Sesvete, he returned to Dinamo where he helped his team win the Croatian Cup and was named the Man of the Match. Leko eventually went to Dynamo Kyiv for a club-record €5.5 million in 2002. On 4 June 2006, Leko signed for French club AS Monaco on a free transfer, and stayed there for a several years before joining Dinamo Zagreb once more. In August 2014 he moved to Lokomotiva Football Club on loan, and in 2015, he permanently joined Lokomotiva for the last season of his professional career.
Leko's international career began in 2002 in a match against Hungary. He took part in a numerous tournaments, including the World Cup in 2006, Euro 2004 and Euro 2008. A year later, in a friendly game against Qatar, Leko made his final appearance for his country.
Leko started his managerial career by succeeding Besnik Prenga on the bench of Lokomotiva's U19s in the summer of 2017, leading them through 2017/18 UEFA Youth League. They were, however, eliminated by Željezničar in the next round. After that, he was a manager of Hrvatski Dragovoljac and Lokomotiva. In July 2021, Leko was named the manager of Jarun in their debut season in the Second Football League.
Apart from being an amazing football player and gifted football manager, Leko is a beloved member of our DrLuigi family and knows that our medical footwear is the best choice for athletes. We wish Jerko all the best in his career and many more successful years.
